YAM Notes: January/February 2023

By Gregory A. Weiss

Mike Dalby and Jesse Lovejoy continue to hit it out of the park. Their productions of ‘66Live have fascinated and educated us for the past six months. Since the first session in April through November, they have hosted six 1-1/4 hour Zoom calls in which they have interviewed and led discussions with four Yale Classmates and two other Yale-related individuals. They were all terrific and well-attended.

Once again, we want to thank Mike and Jesse profusely for their great work. But that leads to the question: what does such work involve? Answer: a lot! They first identify a potentially interesting speaker, then contact him or her to see if he or she is interested and available, establish a mutually acceptable date, do some meaningful research to make sure they are conversant with the topic, conduct a preliminary session with the speaker a few days before the meeting, and, finally, host the actual meeting. What we see on our zoom screens is the culmination of all of this, and the hard work and attention to detail show. Thanks again guys! We look forward to more in 2023.

It’s not too late to sign up for the annual Class Winterfest, scheduled for February 27 through March 2 in Crested Butte, Colorado. As previously noted, Covid issues have caused this to be canceled twice before. Ned Snyder is the lead organizer. The way it looks right now this one will be a go, and Ned is understandably thrilled. Contact him by email with any questions (nedsnyderiii@aol.com). Remember, an ability or desire to ski is not required. Crested Butte has a quite a reputation as a fun former Colorado mining town. Come and join in!
