William C. Dale, of East Longmeadow, MA, died suddenly of a heart attack, watching the first Trump impeachment trial. Born in Long Branch, NJ, he went to Lawrenceville School and was originally in the Class of 1964 at Yale, an enthusiastic English major and member of The Dramat. His father, however, was more career minded. William dropped out of college, returning after two years to join our class studying science. He went on to earn a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University and spent his career as a research engineer at Monsanto Co.
He took great pride in his children Leigh and Douglas and happily discussed politics, watched a play, and sang showtunes as lullabies (badly, by his own admission). Jennifer Quynn-Dale, his travel buddy, coparent, and wife for 41 years reports that he loved attending the Stratford Theatre Festival in Ontario, Canada. His successful career as a research engineer notwithstanding, William never lost his love of literature and theater.
