YAM Notes: September/October 2018

By Gregory A. Weiss

Congratulations to Jeff Jones, who was just elected to a six-year term as a member of the Yale Alumni Fund board of directors. Under the leadership of our six Yale Alumni Fund chairmen (Jeff, Andy Berkman, Bob Brundige, Biff Folberth, Murph Levin, and Jay Westcott) and our 34 other YAF agents, and with the giving by so many classmates, our class again achieved an over-50-percent participation rate.

Chuck McGregor died in June 2018. Chuck was a leader in the field of audio design. Among his many important projects were the designs for the sound systems for the free concerts given by the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. Music, however, was Chuck’s lifelong passion. He was a remarkable bass player and, after his retirement, played in numerous groups in various communities in Maine, where he made his final home.

It’s not too early to start thinking about ski season! Ben Liptzin is hard at work organizing Winterfest 2019 to be held from January 30 to February 2, 2019, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Contact Ben with any questions. First-timers are welcome, whether or not you ski; a great time is guaranteed!

Classmate interactions: Biff Folberth attended a lecture given by Piero Fenci on Nantucket in July about his sculpture and played golf on Fisher’s Island in eastern Long Island Sound with Kirk Ressler. Tim Wollaeger met up this summer with former roommates Dave Whitridge (at Dave’s longtime family second home in the San Juan Islands north of Seattle) and Dave Whiteley at Dave’s hand-built adobe-brick home and horse farm in Sonoma, California.
